Sharing slides?!

Slide share is an interesting site with some neat possibilities! May come in handy when a presentation is done outside the library and people might want to view it again later.

This is the tribute I did on behalf of my husband and his siblings, which was shown during the funeral dinner.

To Twitter or not to Twitter...

Twitter is kind of fun. Nothing I searched for in Twitter came up so I clicked on a couple of links off to the side and found a couple of things about which to Twitter. Since the search for "Hastings" came up empty, I guess it's not a way to reach our Teens about events and resources (which was one use I had come up with before my search). I cannot see myself using this microblogging much since I am without Internet (and sometimes cell phone) service roaming around the county.

My Library Thing

Library Thing looks like a fun thing to visit. It's almost like having your own little library online. Plus you get to see what others are reading--almost like a book talk at the library. This would be great for people who choose what books their book clubs are going to read next. It would also come in handy for those of us who recommend materials for purchase at our local libraries. My library is at

Ain't technology great (or not)?

I'm glad the Commission put this 23 things program together so we can all be daring enough to learn about what our patrons are using or talking about when they come to the desk. It's just too bad that I didn't know some of these things before I took the technology class at UNO this summer. The learning curve for web 2.0 wouldn't have been as steep. Technology is a great thing...when it's working and when you're near a computer (and an Internet source). I am having fun learning when I'm near both!

This was kind of fun to make! Hope Scorcher08 enjoys seeing himself on a poster...

These READ posters would be fun to do with kids sometime as an activity, especially since next summer's reading program involves getting creative at your library.

More fun with Flickr

I tried to get the letter thing to work but no such luck. Some of these things are really neat, but don't see much for application in our library...

Flickr

baby t: 8 days old on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Flickr is a really neat site with lots of photos to share. I personally have chosen a different site to store my photos because of other features that I liked. The picture I have chosen from Flickr gives me pause as I watch my son grow up. He used to be that little, curled up in a ball, taking a nap...Now he's nine and reading bedtime stories (that we used to read to him) to us before he goes to sleep (and I nearly doze off while listening :-) ). It's incredible how time passes so quickly and your children are never that little again!

I found some RSS feeds of interest

In order to subscribe to some blogs of interest, I often google to search for it. I'm hoping that if the blog doesn't have an RSS feed, that copying and pasting the web address into the "subscribe" box in Google reader will keep me up to date instead. I guess I'll find out, right? Like I said earlier, these subscriptions would be great to add to our website in some respects, but it's easy to get carried away and never read all of your updated blogs because you run out of time. Whereas I am out traveling around the county for a great portion of my day, short of having wireless internet I am unconnected with the rest of the world except via cell phone. So I am away from "my desk" a lot.

RSS is really simple!

Copy and paste! That's all there was to this exercise for me. :-) I already subscribe to Stephen's Lighthouse, a scrapbooking feed, and the School Library Journal 2.0 articles. I look forward to seeing what my participant feeds have to say.

I just chatted with Allana! :-)

I have chatted once before with my credit card company. The experience was OK. Blogging with the Commission is much more fun. I can really see us using this sometime in the near future in order to be with our customers in their space and time. Thanks to Allana for her patience!

Workin' on a permalink

I am cautiously optimistic about actually getting all of this to work and also remembering it all in order to use it. If I can just follow the directions, right? :-)
I'm still working on the permalink part, however. We'll see...

Life long learning habits

I think viewing problems as challenges from which I can learn will be a challenge. :-)
I am working toward using technology to my advantage. When I am doing a paper for my library classes, I bookmark the articles or websites I need on Delicious, for example. I can't wait to play; I find finding time for that as a challenge. The rest of the habits won't/aren't too difficult for me.

Bloggin' away!

This is not my first time blogging. I took a class this summer that examined a lot of web 2.0 stuff. Part of our assignments were done on a blog. So I know how to post one, but have never set up my own.
